Olloclip 3-in-1 iPhone photo lens

This clever little gadget transforms your iPhone into a pocket camera to be reckoned with. Slipping over the corner of the phone, the device contains three lenses: the large fish-eye lens, a wide angle lens and – nestled beneath that and accessed by unscrewing the wide angle lens – a macro lens, its triumph.

I find it a struggle to find a need for a fish eye lens – or at least the need to have one in your pocket at all times – but the wide angle does come in useful, especially for taking shots of interiors in small spaces when it comes into its own for opening up the field of view. Still, the inherent distortion has an adverse effect on the final image, so don’t start hoping for any awards just yet.

The macro lens, however, is a thing of beauty, providing a window to a whole new miniature world of wonder, and an easy way to make your images stand out from the crowd on Instagram – after all, how many users can get so close and stay in focus? The arty options are almost limitless. Take a look at the gallery below to see my own efforts.
